| Wizard’s First Rule – Terry Goodkind | Currently Reading. I liked the first season of Legend of the Seeker and thought I’d try the book out. Granted, I didn’t like the the way magic was used once in a while to get characters out of situations, but I view the book as escapism, not to be analyzed too deep or taken too seriously. |
| Prelude to Foundation – Isaac Asimov | Finished Reading. I have read the Foundation series and the Robot Series by Isaac Asimov and enjoyed them all. This book was also good. Prequels are often more interesting than the original series since they enrich the backstory. This was a whole new story all together. |
| A Saga of Fire and Ice – George R.R. Martin | Read up to current book. This is fantasy a series of books that defies the stereotype of fantasy. The series starts with very little magic and as a whole, so far, has less magic in it than Legend of the Seeker had in its first episode. I am looking forward to the HBO production of the series; if they do as good a job with it as they did with Rome or Deadwood, I will be impressed. I highly recommend this series. |
| Hood – Stephen Lawhead | Read. This is Robin Hood on Acid. It is a very, very different story from the Robin Hood we all knew growing up. The author moved the setting and time of the story to Wales along the March just after the Norman Conquest. Robin, his name is Bran in the story, is a Welsh nobleman just trying to deal with the new Norman order. I recently had an opportunity to listen to a reading by the author and to have him sign a copy of the third book in the series, Tuck. I am looking forward to finishing the series. |
